Sometime at the end of 2018, beginning of 2019 I had an idea to start a podcast.
I had just started listening to some podcasts that shared stories of people who were doing great things for God and in their businesses, and after going through ALL of the episodes available that applied to me… I ran out.
I ran out of episodes and stories from the people I really wanted to hear from. Don’t take this wrong! There are a lot of great podcasts out there, and once I’d binged on the past episodes, I started patiently waiting for the next episode to come out.
Since then, I’ve definitely added some new podcasts to my subscription list. But I still couldn’t shake the idea of doing a podcast myself.
And guess what? This is where it starts!
Today, I’m sharing more about the podcast – and why I started it – so you’ll know what to expect from me and from the guests I have on the show.
Have you ever felt God calling you to do something you felt completely unqualified for?
Many many times.
Sometimes I would even worry so much about what I should do (I mean I didn’t want to fall flat on my face… that’s embarrassing, right?) I worried so much that I wanted God to come sit down in front of me and give me an audible YES or NO.
I WANTED to be right in the middle of His will! I wanted to do whatever He wanted me to do… but with an assurance that required little faith and zero uncertainty.
Surrendering control, pride, and comfort is not an easy thing to do.
But, I started this podcast to tell you… it’s worth it!
God finally dropped a little bit of wisdom into my soul through a preacher who took some time to visit with my husband and I for a few minutes at a concert in 2014. Rob McKee said, Don’t look for the green lights, look for the stop signs.
In other words, keep moving forward. Take the first step, and the next, and the one after that. TRY something, and if you don’t see a stop sign at the next crossroads, then keep at it.
God made us creative human beings, with big ideas and bigger dreams.
Each and every one of us!
And yes… that means you too!
And He wants us to do something about it! He put those dreams and passions into us when he formed us in the womb.
Does it align with the Word?
Will it advance His Kingdom?
If the answer is yes, then pursue those things for His glory!
Now, did I get it right every time after I heard those words?
As a matter of fact, my husband probably got tired of reminding me of those words over the next several years. Even making the decision to record my first project was like pulling my hair out.
I mean, it’s a pretty big financial investment with very little return… and I wasn’t getting the audible YES to move forward that I wanted!
But, I finally took the first step, made the first phone call… and I’m SO glad I did.
God has used Fight For Us all over the world. That would NOT have happened if I’d decided to sit on my hands and say, God I’m not moving until you give me a guarantee that this is going to go well.
Since then, I’ve learned that it’s ok, and a GOD thing, to chase big ideas!
It’s ok that some will succeed and some will simply be opportunities to learn and grow.
We fear failure, rejection, and vulnerability so much, and it keeps us from trusting Him and being ok with the outcome, whatever that looks like.
We have to knock fear flat on it’s back and step over it as we move forward.
The important thing is… we should all be doing something. We should all be willing to take a step of faith, get out of our comfort zone and DO SOMETHING for the Kingdom.
I can’t tell you what that looks like for you. Only you know the things that burden your heart and draw you to action. Only you know what God has called you to do.
So far- for me, it’s looked like starting a church in Seattle. It’s starting down a road to adoption and foster care. It’s starting an online music conference so more people have access to music ministry training, and writing and recording songs for the church.
And today, it’s starting a podcast. A podcast that I hope will encourage YOU to tackle that big idea and decide that this is where it starts.
On this podcast, I’ll be sharing my stories about all of the things I just mentioned. I want you to know that each thing that’s happened, and every door God has opened, has been a result of me taking the first step. I want you to know what it looked like, what tools and resources were a benefit to me, the ups and downs… everything!
AND I’m excited to share the stories of a variety of guests with you, from pastors and missionaries to stay-at-home moms and students… the common thread here? They all chose to take the first step toward something that would make a Kingdom impact.
The keywords here being “first step”.
Plan to be inspired, but also plan to get some practical advice and tips on how you can do these things to.
With every episode and every story, I fervently pray you’ll realize that YOU are called and ABLE to do something amazing and valuable in God’s Kingdom.
Before we end, I want to share one of the components of this podcast that I’m excited about. This Is Where It Starts is all about doing things that make a Kingdom impact, so it’s only right that we partner with the folks who are already doing this!
Each month we’ll be featuring a different non-profit cause and giving you a chance to give, volunteer, and pray for them.
One of the things I’ve learned along the way is, money equals ministry. God blessed the Church, that’s you and me, so we can GIVE and BE a blessing.
I think we tend to hold on to our wallets a little tighter than we should, so I encourage you to prayerfully consider supporting our non-profit partners in some way each month.
If you’d like to be one of our non-profit partners, you can fill out the application here: https://forms.gle/dnpPXcA66SfGs5vBA
Thank you so much for hanging out with me in this introduction to the podcast! I hope you’re excited to hear more and that you already feel like you change your world! Because, YOU CAN!
And, I want to hear from you!
